Winery Dopler

Since 1907 Family Dopler has been growing rich full-bodied Reds and light crisp Whites. Located in Tattendorf, 20 minutes south of Vienna, we are ideally situated in the Thermal Region with its mineral rich soils. Our wines are favorites among wine connoisseurs because of these calcareous soils.

Family Dopler has a long and proud history of growing grape varieties of the Burgundy family with noble aromas and long ageing potential.

Our powerful Reds are popular for their full body and soft tannins: Saint Laurent, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zweigelt, Blue Portugieser and Blaufränkisch.

Our crisp Whites include Pinot Blanc, Neuburger, Kardinalwein, Muskat Ottonel, and Rose, a type of wine that is neither purely red nor purely white, though always appropriate. We also produce a limited quantity of specialty wines such as Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein. Our Pannonian climate with hot dry summers gives near perfect conditions for the growth of the grapes. The weather in 2006 helped create wines with beautiful qualities.

In this region two fascinating and challenging wine varieties demand high standards from soil and the winemaker, the Pinot Noir and St.Laurent. These are often compared with those from the Cote d'Or France because of the similar soils and geological configurations.

Our St. Laurent has intense dark red colour and an elegant bouquet of black cherries. As a new wine, it is quite dry. After ageing it is velvety smooth and full-bodied with soft tannins. Ageing in oak-barrels adds the touch of elegance. This grape originally was found in Alsace, it was brought to Austria via Germany. Austria is one of the main producing areas of the world for St. Laurent.

Our Pinot Noir, the main grape variety of Burgundy, is smooth, fruity and velvet on the palate and has a well deserved reputation for being one of the most difficult varieties to produce. It is very sensitive to climate, soil, pruning, training system and especially vinification.

The best conditions for Pinot Noir are continental climate and calcareous soils offering good drainage, together with old vines and small yields. Our Pinot Noir aromas can be described as similar to raspberries or strawberries, whereas other Pinot Noir bouquets present themselves more complex and range from violets to deer and from herbs to truffles. Vinifying great wines from Pinot Noir requires extraordinary skill and patience.

Drinking wine can be good for your health. Studies have shown flavanoids and resveratrol, found mostly in red wines, act as antioxidants, and can reduce heart disease, cholesterol, as well as reduce levels of amyloid beta peptides which could attack brains cells and bring on symptoms of Alzheimer's. Recently, saponins, found in red wines, have been shown to help reduce cholesterol as well.
